June 9th is a day of celebration…Weird Al Yankovic gives a live performance at Starlight Amphitheatre and Cyndi Lauper celebrates her 1st No1 ‘Time After TIme’ (both 84), in ’62′, Tony Bennet’s first performance at Carnigie Hall and ’67′ the Monkeys perform their first at the Hollywood Bowl, in ’95′ Dumb and Dumber is released in Sweden, Donald Duck, Jackie Wilson, Les Paul, Jon Lord, Charles Saatchi, Matt Bellamy, Michael J Fox and Natalie Portman were all born this day (Natalie Portman in ‘Your Highness’ is worth celebrating).

So to carry on the tradition of great June the 9th’s, we’re happy to announce the 2nd annual APN skaterace, also we’ve decided to move the race to Victoria Park (Hackney) as they as recently as last August re-tarmaced the park, I’m sure you have skated there and know how sweet it is, the course is bigger, better and longer.

The race starts at 3pm over at Crown Gate West (map to follow, registration at 2.30pm), we have bigger prizes this year and to cap it all off we have the APN and Amateurism Summer Party over at Pub On The Park in London Fields, from 4pm.

More announcements to follow on the race and the party

There are a number of things that have influenced APN (Don Martin, MAD magazine, B-movies, Adventures of Huck fin & Tom Sawyer) a new inspiration to us is from over 40 years ago and is by Tom Sims of ‘Sims’ fame. When Tom started running the asphalt to the beach he did this on re-coned wooden waterskis, this influenced us enough and as you can see from our first video, we’ve started out carving up our own!

Every APN board is individually fire branded and no 3 boards are ever the same, for more information on the boards, email me at blainespeed@apublicnuisance.com and I’ll send you our current stock listing.

A huge thanks goes out to Ali Graham, Leo Walton and of course Hannah Almond for whom this would not have been possible without their creativity, dedication, and patience.

The California Classic APN pop up store!

Just back from a rad little weekend where we had our first pop up store care of Future Cinema who were showing ‘The Lost Boys’ and ‘Top Gun’ to 8000 over the weekend on the awesome little Wood Wharf over looked by Canary Wharf.

The store was influenced by the ‘Surfing Cowboys’ store in Venice Beach CA., we also had illustrator Lee Holland work on a mural titled ‘Cool Kids Can’t Die’ which you will see next year as part of Lee’s first collection and our first collaboration.

Its not every day you meet people who impress and inspire you with idea’s of derring-do of Epic shit proportions, this was until a while back when I met with Mark Tulloch and Hannah Almond.

Mark suffers from Bi-Polar, I say suffer, he just gets on with his ride, nothing deters this dude, so they decided with some buds that a longboard skate-out from London to Brighton in support of the Bi-Polar organisation ‘MDF’ would be their contribution.

Accompanied on their adventure were; Luke Carter, Stephen Jeremy Bailey, Grant Stork, Bruno Silva De Oliveir, Andrew Marijan, Lucas Santos, Ben Williams and Danny Wallwork.

If you know nothing about and want to find out about Bipolar go here; http://www.mdf.org.uk/index.aspx?o=56881

If you would like to support Mark and his buddies who have raised over £1000 to date, go here; http://www.justgiving.com/BoardingforBipolar

As we’ve always said, we’ll only say something when there’s something worth saying…

We have a store at ‘Paddle Round The Pier’ in Brighton this weekend, come buy our classic Sweats, Hoods, T’s and new stock APN Summer Vintage Sweats and now with every purchase you can get one of the APN ‘Skate and Chips’ wooden chip forks (thanks Gabby and Camilla)…

…well here is the much spoken about APN cup, its not a cup granted, but you know…well, that aside, the plinth has been made by our good friend Rupert Walton and he deemed it necessary to make it out of ‘Mahogany’, good work and again thanks roop.

We are racing for the glory of naming the cup, Wednesday (June 1st), we’ll be at Speakers corner in Hyde park, race to approximately start at 7pm, I hear there are 40 racers, a solid number for mischief…

There are prizes:
1st: APN sweat/hood
2nd: APN T
3rd: APN T

After this, we shall be announcing more about the cup and how you can get your name carved onto it.

There have been many epic fights, feuds, rivalries over the years and some of our favourites have been:

Rocky vs. Drago
Spy vs. Spy
Ryu vs. Sagat
Coke vs. Pepsi
Pirates vs. Ninjas
Hatfields vs. McCoys
Lakers vs. Celtics
The 300 at Thermopylae vs. Persian Empire of Xerxes
Wile e Coyote vs. Road Runner
Daddy Daddy vs. Student Grant

To add to this list, Gilbey Gilbey, Huglife, T-bone, Richie Mills and to some extent myself will be racing for the glory to name the APN cup in the ‘Champion, Champion of Champions’ race in Hyde Park.

If your about and want to catch glimpse of what legends are made of, we’ll be there on June 1st at 7pm. The race starts at Speakers Corner and finishes at the end of Serpentine Road, its not a long race, but a race for ever lasting glory.

Welcome Nerds…

This will be the start of why you keep coming back!

Why? We are launching our APN – A Public Nuisance Vintage ‘Revenge Of The Nerds’ inspired fabric patches on our APN vintage range of sweats, hoods and short sleeve sweats. The design has been influenced by the logo from the frat in ROTN, ‘Lambda Lambda Lambda’, or Tri-Lambs as they are also known, here’s a little about them:

Inspired by movies like ROTN and National Lampoon’s Animal House, Tri-Lambs established as a fraternity that is dedicated to the enjoyment and enrichment of pop culture and to the brotherhood of the members. Tri-Lambs do not discriminate based on race, sex, gender, religion, class, or sexual orientation. The fraternity was founded on the grounds of changing what a fraternity is back to its original meaning, the “openness of the fraternity” leads it to be a place in which to create a “network of support” among its brothers.

The APN Vintage range will be sold exclusively on www.apublicnuisance.com, they are vintage sweats, they are all hand picked and there will only be 25 up at a time, once they have gone, we’ll put up another 25…you get the idea.

Here’s a taster, they’ll be online Friday 1st April.

'this is that sweat that you'll never see anyone else in'

Its fashion week in London I thought I saw my mother’s old douche-bag, but it couldn’t have been as that’s in Stafford, so its must have been the shit eating grin of the celebrity front rows who’s idea of any anything is what the tramp next to her is wearing that they couldn’t get because they would…wear-my-mothers-old-douche-bag…..if they thought it would get them noticed….

To “be noticed when you want to be noticed” however is ‘A Public Nuisance’ and we are quite happy to share with you the first pictures of our 2011 T range, these will come in any colour as long as they are white/black/red/blue we and will be taking pre orders as we will not be ready until March.

All T’s are £20, but if you order the ‘The Gang of 3′ as a gang, so all of them, that means the A,P & N together, that means as a total of three T’s (fuck me, only writing this so we don’t get fucked) it will be £50.

Aaaahhhh the days are getting longer, summer is just around the corner and we’ll all be kicking back and drinking some suds in the park at the APN picnic (June/july) and talking about how much we wouldn’t live any where else as we have the perfect life with the different seasons…I love the leaves when they change colour and when they drop off and you can run through them hand in hand, and lets not forget the snow, ooooooo it never snows any more, i hope we have a white christmas, those daffs will be coming up soon, the birds are flying north for the summer, if doesn’t rain soon, it’ll be a hose pipe ban for sure, best go and wash the car, we never had a summer last year, i’m definitely moving to a warmer country, I bet I do…..BULL SHIT!

What isn’t Bull Shit, APN (A Public Nuisance) will be opening its first store on Saturday 29th Jan, it will be the only place where we will be selling our VINTAGE RANGE, we have navy blue and black (sweats and hoods), grey marl, yellows, reds, there are also a limited number of short sleeve sweats too, they are rad because I say so and best buy one now as every mother fucker will want one..thats the truth!

You will find us from 11am till 6pm at ‘Netil Market’ on Westgate Street E9 ok, so maybe a little bull shit and not really a store, none the less, it would be like the store I had in ‘The Never ending Story’..shame it had to end….

Last week I presented a brief to the illustration students at CCofA titled APN ‘Keep up the Good Work’.

the brief:

Those who encourage or even enforce Health and safety in everything we do are trying to ensure we have no need for spontaneity, fun and living a life where we can’t ‘make better mistakes tomorrow’…

Our culture seems to be based more and more on celebrity and the circus that follows it, most seem to be individuals who have no discernable talent and that are pushed by the media as our role models, how can you be inspired by these people who we are supposed to look up to but we can only look down on what they supposedly think they achieve!

We want to recognize those who have fought the illogical, self-serious, and the ludicrous and worked hard on their talent so that they can continue to inspire us!

We will be choosing a design that will be used for as long as we are around, where when we have personally seen or been notified by you, some one who has inspired us, they will receive the T, they cannot be bought, this is rewarding those who ‘Keep up the Good Work’.

We’ll keep you posted..

This is a little news bulletin on a ‘what you doing now piece’ on our little brother ‘Aki’ (get well soon baby)…more news to be announced on APN and Camberwell College of Art this week…

This week we appeared on Camberwell SNAPSHOT!

first bit of press for APN, thanks TeeHunter…

The brand has a great vibe and sometimes it’s great to have a trusty garment or two that isn’t going to blind passers by with it’s bold but gaudy artwork.

My name is Blaine Speed, I might have brought you many things in my time, but today (16/11/2010) is an invention of mine they call ‘APN’ (A Public Nuisance)…’essential apparel with a mischievous spirit’…have a look, see what we are getting yourselves into.

Our campaign for 2011 is about gangs, friendship and hanging out …we start with ‘Every Gang Has A Cool Girl’!..why, because it should and if it doesn’t, get one, she rules!

‘SWL’ is Stuff We Like..its the feeling just before a sneeze – will I won’t I, its naked ironing, knowing that ‘that’ home will always be the HOME, its having a twin sister, this is stuff we like, what do you like? if you see stuff you like, remember it, write it down on a scrap of paper, text it to yourself, just don’t forget it, submit it, if we like it we will keep it and you never know it might be included on one of the 4 posters we will be producing every year..check out the one of 15 we have left in the ‘gotta have it’ section of the store.

’27′ is our giving back, want to try that thing you’ve always said you would and in doing so helping others with their dream, tell us about it and if we like it, we’ll help you start out. We will be launching our first ’27′ in March next year,  get in touch now, we can start talking about what will make you worth your while..

The Store is now open, we have limited stock as everyone else bought before we did…gotta learn by making better mistakes tomorrow I guess.

I’ll be updating when I’ve got something to say, when I see something that makes me smile, it could be everyday, maybe a couple of times a week, but I’ll make sure I have something to say, make sure you do.
